closing the gap to the city centre

Future development plans

The regeneration of Piccadilly and the opening of the luxury four star MacDonald Hotel in 2007 has seen a real stretching of the city centre boundaries and Ardwick has become a talked about area once again. Indeed, one of the most successful office redevelopment schemes, in terms of square footage let, in 2007 was in Ardwick1.

Ardwick Green, bordered by the A6 and Mancunian Way, is an area earmarked for further commercial development over the next few years2 as a cost effective accommodation option in central Manchester. The plan looks set for a kick start following the acquisition in early 2008 of a 30-acre site between Piccadilly Station and the Mancunian Way by Mayfield Manchester3. A framework for the development should be in place for autumn 2008 that will pave the way for a huge improvement in the area.
